Spring Harvest 2009: Rain Barrel and Cistern Programs Flow Across US & Canada
by Doug Pushard

This spring cities and communities all over the US and Canada are rolling out rain barrel and cistern programs. For some communities these are new programs while for others they are part of their now standard water conservation efforts.  Not surprising newly drought stricten areas have implemented new programs to jump start their water conservation efforts.

Even with the recent snowfall and rain that has swept the country, most communities still believe they need to conserve water due to growing demands and the lingering effects of the drought.

Listed below are some of the programs and dates from around the country. This is not an exhaustive list. For information in your area, contact your local water agency or city conservationist.

If you do not have access to rain barrels you can purchase them online from Aaron's Rain Barrels who offers them in wood and recycled plastic.
